About the artist
Susan Kramer learned the Japanese pottery techniques of wheel throwing, hand-building, and glazing as an exchange student in the eighties. After graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in studio art she completed a Master’s degree in ceramic sculpture from Central Connecticut State University.
Never wanting to be stagnant, her styles have ranged from southwestern and Japanese-influenced, to contemporary- colorful. She currently expresses herself with white earthenware functional forms, decorated with bold colors that enliven the home environment. She has added a more rustic and chic line of terracotta pottery, showing her love of southwestern hues and Rocky Mountain vistas.
In the winters Susan is the technical director for the Bromley Outing Club, an Examiner with PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) and is the coach of the PSIA eastern division alpine examiners. She is also a USSS (U.S. Ski & Snowboard) certified race coach and trainer. Clearly, besides making beautiful pottery, her other passion is skiing and spending time outdoors.
